How to read a truck repair estimate
Updated October 2026
An estimate should spell out the work, the parts and the price before the shop starts.
The line items
Labor: hours times the shop's labor rate. Ask how hours were estimated. Parts: new, rebuilt or used, and the brand. Shop supplies: often a percentage. Diagnostics: sometimes credited if you approve the repair. Taxes and disposal fees.
Questions to ask
What happens if they find more problems? Is the diagnostic fee credited? What's the warranty?
